Little Update (so to speak)

Hi, its been a few weeks now since my last post (gosh that sounds far too much like a confession lol) and I just wanted to give you all a heads up on how I am getting on with my current work and also I thought it would be nice to show you all some pictures of my previous work over the last couple of years during my time on the BA Hons Fine Art degree over here at Wirral Metropolitan College.

Firstly, my current work. At the moment I have just been concentrating on ideas for my sketchbook and also researching a few artists in regards to my colour theory essay that I have still yet to start (I have been making notes here and there though, so its a start). So far I have managed to manipulate some images that I thought represented the four elements of Earth, Air, Fire and Water by using Adobe Photoshop. I like to use this method of practise as a quick way of working out Geometric compositions based on the original images. These images that I have pixilated have been added to my sketchbook and now I feel as though I am starting to make slow progress with my work, as once I have chosen four compositions then I can start to focus on the colour aspect of my paintings. So far though I don't have any pictures of this work at the moment, but I will try to upload some very soon for you all to see.

I have also been looking at a number of artists that I feel use colour as a primary subject and matter when it comes to their paintings. One artist I have been researching a little on is Gerhard Richter, mainly his colour chart works dating back to the early 1960's. He produces a large body of work that consists of colour grid paintings. These paintings

Anyway enough of that, lets show you some of my previous work. I am sure you are all dying to see them. Here goes:-
This is a transcription painting that I did for our last project in my third year at college. It is based on that of Titian's Danae. As you can see I have tried to incorporate the figures within the original image.

This is a painting I did back in my first year in college. I decided to use hands as my overall subject of study, and this was one of my main pieces for assessment. This is in acrylic along with all of my other paintings. I find this a much easier product to use and feel it is right for me as an artists. I did enter this piece in the National Open Art Competition a few years ago, but it didn't make the cut.

Again another transcription based on Henri Matisse's The Dance. Here I have tried to capture the movement that is present within the original image by using slightly different shades of colour so they bounce back and forth.

This is a piece that I somehow quickly put together for a local Art Exhibition called 'Fractured Vision'. It is based on Autumnal colours such as browns, yellows, oranges, reds and greens. I am please with the way this paintings work out, and it even sold at the exhibition even if it was my mother in law that brought it haha.

These are a series of paintings that i did for my last project in my second year. they are all based on complimentary colours for instance blue and orange, red and green and yellow and purple. I decided to call the the Silver Lining paintings as they all consist of silver lines that break up the colours.

I know I haven't really gone into much detail when describing my work, but as I am a newbie when it comes to writing about myself and so on I find it difficult to go into so much detail about myself. Strange for an artist I know, but that may change soon. Plus I am hoping that in writing out blogs now and again I can start to construct in depth conversations with this blog.

Hope you all liked reading this short and sweet blog today, speak to you all soon :)

Bones

Sooooooooooooooooo, its the end of my first week as a newbie blogger. Its a little bizzare for me to just write about how my week and work has gone for the world to see, but i feel as though I am already getting the hang of it.

Anyway, I thought I would share with you all a few photographs of some of my work I have been working on this week in regards to my drawing Option at uni. Basically we started the academic year off by making observational drawings of bones that our tutor just so happended to have a spare box of bones (animal) lying around his office in the studio. I have enjoyed sketching these very much, and I have been producing some work in my sketchbook. Because I like my Abstract art I wondered how I could go about creating an abstract drawing of bones and this is what I came up with.

What do you think?

This is an A1 drawing in charcoal based on a number of photographs that I had taken of bones that I put together on Photoshop. I have used an overhead projector to help me enlarge the image to the scale I wanted. So far this is not yet finished I have started on something even bigger!

This is just a close up on the original image I had printed out in black and white. in order to project the image onto the wall I photocopied my printout onto an acetate sheet. I am pleased with this drawing so far, but this is just a basis for me to be able t think bigger.
So the next day in college I decided that I wanted to draw bigger and better. I was given some fabriano paper from one of the other tutors and that was it then, there was no stopping me. Again I used charcoal and the overhead projector to projecct my chosen collage of bones. I am not quite sure the overall size of this drawing so far (will get measurements when I am in on Monday) but it is big believe me lol.

So here it is.

Again this one is yet to be finished and I hope to finish it sometime next week, so hopefully once it is complete I will be able to post some pictures and also tell you how I have been getting on with my end of year degree module. So as they say Tar Tar for now :)

First Blog

Hi, My name is Lucy-Grace and I am currently in my third year studdying the BA Hons Fine Art Degree at the Wirral Metropolitan College over in the Wirral. I am mostly a painter by heart and have been painting Abstract/Gepmetric paintings that are vivid in colour as I like to maninly focus on colour. I am currently looking into the four elements (Earth, Air, Fire and Water) as a basis for my final project which will be displayed at the local Williamson Art Gallery in Birkenhead as part of our end of year degree show in June this year.

I have just started my research on these elements by looking into the colours that represent these. Hopefully I will be able to keep adding to this blog and keep you all upto date with my progree and also include photograpths as a visual informant. So watch this space :)
